Leaving soon

We are now in the final stages of preparations for our return to Zihuatanejo.  We have decided to drive this year for two reasons: 1- We need a vehicle in Zihua to do our ministry as the one we had was needing to be replaced. 2- We wanted to experience the drive once as Mexico is a beautiful country and we will take in the beauty of seeing the Copper Canyon as a side trip.  It is 4 1/2 times larger than the Grand Canyon and we look forward to viewing God's creation there for ourselves.  We will be staying with many friends and family on our journey south therefore saving on the cost of overnights at least until we get to the Mexican/American border.  Then it is 1500 miles to Zihuatanejo.  We ask for prayers for safety and an amazing experience.
We are hoping to leave the vehicle we are driving down in Mexico for our work there.  There will be some restraints and we pray that God will open the door for us to be able to do this.
We thank you for your ongoing support.

2015-2016 Fundraising

Good morning,

As we prepare for our return to Mexico we are sending this letter out to  all our friends and family praying that you will be willing to help some of the  poorer people of Zihuatanejo who live in shacks with "tar paper"  roofs.  This time of year from June to October they have torrential rains  with approximately 100 inches of rain and many of them have holes in the roofing material and the rain on their dirt floors/mud floors makes the living  conditions deplorable.  This year we will be shifting gears a little and taking on another Colonia called Convergencia which is the next colonia over from where we have done the work the last 4 years.  We therefore need financial support to achieve this goal.  We plan to use the same person as the last four years to be in charge of the physical aspect of the project and the needed communication with vendors and also the local people.   He is given an honorarium for each roof completed which is part of the total roof cost.   As we did the last 4 years the  "paying it forward" concept will be used ensuring growth in the community and a sense of ownership and pride in helping their neighbors.  We are planning to repair/replace 25 roofs this winter with galvanized metal sheeting  and each roof should cost approximately $324.00.   The owners who can manage it are asked to also participate by contributing financially as well giving them pride of ownership in the work being done.
We have been blessed in receiving our non-profit status as of March 4, 2015 and we are now known as Zihua Roofs Society.  We would love for you to check out our website to learn more about the work God has put on our hearts to do again this winter and to see the progress that was made last year at  www.zihuaroofs.com.  This is a brand new simplified website for easy navigation.
If you are able to help with funds for one roof, a partial roof or for ongoing monthly payments you now have 3 options to choose from:
  1. go to zihuaroofs.com and click on "sponsor a roof" or "donate now".  This will take you to a page that explains that Canada Helps is simply taking over the role of Vernon Alliance Church channeling funds directly to our Zihua Roofs Society bank account in Vernon.  Canada Helps will receipt you instead of VAC in the name of Zihua Roofs Society.
  2. if your bank allows "email transfer" this is also another easy option.  You would click on the "email transfer" button which you would then send to our email address at  zihuatbound@hotmail.com.  There is a place on the screen where you would make reference to Zihua Roofs Society(very important).  We would then receipt you at the end of the year.  You would be asked to put in a security question for us to answer such as "your wife's name, dog's name "etc.  You would then send us an email with the answer for us to access your donation.
  3. If you would still prefer to send checks please do so to Zihua Roofs Society at 2600-26th Street, Vernon, BC, V1T 4T5.  We will receipt you at the end of the year just like VAC has done in the past.

If you are American your tax system is different than ours in Canada and we suggest you consult your tax advisor about your donation.  If you have questions or would like to connect  with us directly our number is 250-549-4822.   This number is de-activated from mid-October to April.   Thank you so much.

Love & prayers,
Andy & Maureen Nyhuis

"The Rodriguez family is living in Their house. For security and privacy, rarely their door is open - UNLESS you knock. They have any available space in the back of the house where they sit and wash clothes. Mom is a few doors down with her sewing machine sewing offering services to the community. The roof held-through Manuel and seems to be holding.  It is a family of 13, 2 parents and 11 kids."

PictureNew Roof for the School
Zihuatanejo Roofing took part in the expansion of the stick school at the dump by providing the roof.  A number of volunteers from Canada built an additional structure for the small school as well as building a small shack for a recent widow.  Zihua Roofs provided the two roofs  thanks  to the generosity of an involved donor.
